Care and Maintenance

Caring for Your Luna's Adventure Leads

With proper care, your adventure lead will stay strong, safe, and looking great for years of outdoor fun. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your gear in top condition.

Cleaning Your Lead

  • Hand wash recommended: Use mild soap and lukewarm water to gently scrub the lead and hardware, if needed.
  • Rinse thoroughly: Make sure all soap residue is removed to prevent skin irritation for your pet.
  • Air dry only: Lay flat or hang to dry, Biothane dries very quickly.
  • Do not machine wash or tumble dry — heat and agitation can damage the webbing and hardware.

Hardware Care

  • Rinse metal hardware (clips, rings, buckles) with fresh water after exposure to mud, saltwater, or sand.
  • Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to moving parts if they become stiff.
  • If desired, Brasso can be used to return the luster of the Brass. A metal wax can be used as a protective coating. By and large, Brass is relatively maintenance free.

Storage Tips

  • Store dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Keep away from sharp objects that could fray or cut the webbing.

Inspection & Safety

  • Inspect your lead before every use for signs of wear, or damage.
  • Check all hardware for proper function — clips should snap securely and buckles should lock firmly.
  • If you notice any damage, discontinue use immediately and contact us for a replacement.

When to Replace Your Lead

Even with great care, Although our leads are designed to last for years and even decades. With heavy use they will eventually wear out, no matter how well they are maintained.  Replace your lead if you notice:

  • Fraying, cuts, or thinning of the webbing
  • Bent, cracked, or malfunctioning hardware
  • Cracking or stiffness that affects flexibility
